Rebound Choices Program
Ray of Hope’s Youth Addiction Services is excited to pilot the Rebound Choices program which is funded by Health Canada’s Drug Treatment Funding Program and supported by the Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network (WWLHIN).
The Rebound Choices program will be offered to young people between the ages of 12-17 and focuses both on substance abuse prevention and helping them develop constructive social skills. The program will run one night a week for ten weeks, and covers topics such as communication, decision making, relationships, and goal setting. It will also provide reliable information about alcohol, marijuana, and prescription drugs.
This new program will be coordinated by a dedicated Ray of Hope staff member and supported by trained community volunteers. These volunteers will serve as program coaches and assist the youth using a variety of techniques including role play, small and large group discussion, video clips and guest speakers. The volunteers guide the youth in learning how to analyze interpersonal problems, understand and consider other’s feelings and values, recognize how they impact others, and develop healthy ways of reacting to conflict.
