For people experiencing homelessness and poverty, the heat adds another layer to an already difficult day. Your support helps ensure there is a place where people can come in, cool down, and access the care they need.
Summer can make daily life more difficult for people experiencing homelessness and poverty. Long hours in the heat, limited shade, and few places to rest can quickly become overwhelming. For many, there is no reliable place to cool down or access clean water, a shower, or clean clothes without moving from place to place throughout the day.
At Ray of Hope, those needs and more are met in one place. People can come in from the heat, have a cold drink, eat a meal, take a shower, and stay connected to the support they rely on.
Each day, over 300 people come through the Community Centre. What brings them back is the consistency. They return to a place where they are welcomed, where they can rest, and where support is available when they need it. Over time, that consistency builds trust.
On the hottest days, small things make a real difference. Your support helps provide practical care people can rely on, all in one place.
A place to step inside, cool down, and take a break from the day.
Cold drinks, nourishing meals, showers, and clean clothes, all in one place.
A space to sit, recharge, and not be rushed out.
Connection with staff, access to care, and support people can return to.
These everyday moments of care create a place people can rely on for relief, support, and connection.
Michael has been without stable housing for 17 years, after a mental health crisis led to the loss of his job and his marriage in a matter of months. Since then, he has been navigating each day on his own, often staying outside and finding places where he can rest as safely as possible. He walks at night because it feels safer and avoids trying to sleep during the day, especially in the summer when the heat is at its highest.
Shelters have not worked for him. The structure and restrictions can make his mental health worse, and he needs the ability to come and go on his own terms. In the summer, that becomes even more difficult. The heat is constant, and safe, cool places are limited. As Michael shared, it is often easier to find somewhere warm in the winter than somewhere cool in the summer.
Each day, he looks for places where he can cool down, eat, shower, and have something cold to drink, while staying connected to the care he relies on. At the Ray of Hope Community Centre, he can find all of this in one place. Just as important, he returns to a space where he is known, welcomed, and supported.
Michael’s circumstances have not changed dramatically, but he is not navigating them alone. For people like him, impact is not always measured in major milestones, but in the steady presence of care and a place they can return to each day.
Your support makes that possible.
This summer, you are invited to help sustain a place of relief.
Each day, through the Ray of Hope Community Centre, people experiencing homelessness and poverty can come in from the heat, access meals and clean water, and connect with the support they rely on. These everyday moments of care create a space where people are welcomed, supported, and able to move forward.
Together, we can continue providing that care all summer long.
Your one-time or monthly gift helps ensure the Community Centre remains a place where people can find relief from the heat, access meals and care, and return to a space where they are known and supported. Every gift helps provide food, clean water, showers, and consistent support that people rely on each day.
Your generosity helps keep this place open.
Care is also shared through people who give their time. Whether you are serving meals, offering a warm welcome, or simply being present, your time helps create a place people can return to.
Help others understand the importance of having a place to come in from the heat. When you share this campaign, you help more people learn about the care happening at Ray of Hope and how they can be part of it.
