Employment Programs: What you need to know

Ray of Hope offers a Employment Programs for participants facing barriers to employment. To be eligible, you must be:

  • A permanent resident of Canada
  • Unemployed and able to commit to attending the entire 26-week program
  • Not enrolled in or attending secondary or post-secondary education
  • Fluent in verbal and written English (Canadian Language Benchmark 6+)
  • Able to stand for extended periods during the placement phases
  • Available to work between 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM for phases 1 & 2
  • Able to lift 40+ pounds (approximately 18 kilograms)

Program Details

The Employment Programs are 26 weeks long. It offers paid employment skills training in three possible phases.

  • Phase 1: A 6-week in-class paid employment skills training with certifications
  • Phase 2: A 10-week internal job placement at the Ray of Hope Community Centre
  • Phase 3: A 10-week external job placement based on skills, experience, and interest
  • Option to skip from phases 2 and 3 to obtain a 20-week external job placement

Program highlights and support include:

  • Certifications in First Aid, Safe Food Handling, Smart Serve, and Health and Safety
  • Weekly one-to-one coaching, job development, and action planning support
  • Lunch for the first two phases of the program
  • Support with childcare and grocery costs if required
  • Work and interview clothing if needed
