Hope in Action

Every act of generosity moves us closer to a community where no one is forgotten. One of the quiet forces behind that vision is our group of monthly donors, people who show up with steady, faithful support all year long. This month, we’re sharing one of their stories. We hope you’ll be inspired by what motivates them to give and how their commitment is changing lives.

Choosing Generosity

At Ray of Hope, we believe that everyone has a story. That includes the guests who walk through our doors, the staff who care for them, the volunteers who serve, and the donors who make it all possible. This month, we’re honoured to share the story of Steven and Lynnea, faithful monthly donors who have supported Ray of Hope in both practical and meaningful ways.

Steven and Lynnea first got connected to Ray of Hope through their church, Benton Street Baptist. While they were dating, they began volunteering together. For Steven, who had just moved to Kitchener, supporting a local ministry felt like a natural way to get involved in the community. “I wanted to support a local faith-based charity,” he said. That decision grew into a lasting commitment.

Steven and Lynnea volunteered in several areas at the Community Centre, including shower and laundry services and kitchen duties. Their hands-on experience provided them with a unique insight into the daily needs and challenges faced by the people Ray of Hope serves.

When they got married, they chose to turn their celebration into an opportunity to give back. Instead of traditional gifts, they invited guests to make a donation to Ray of Hope. “We had a lot of stuff already,” they explained. “We wanted to support Ray of Hope because it was already such a meaningful part of our lives.”

Now married with three young children, they are raising their family with the same values that brought them to Ray of Hope in the first place. “We’re trying to help our kids understand that God has blessed us,” Lynnea explained. “We are stewards of what God has given us. We want to use that well and give to people in need.” They often bring their kids along when donating food or socks to the community centre. It’s part of shaping a family culture rooted in generosity and faith.

When asked why they give, their answer is simple but deeply rooted. “We do this because of our faith in Christ,” they said. “God has given us finances, and we use them to help those in the most need. That’s what we’re called to do. Be stewards. Help the widows and orphans. Live that out.”

Steven and Lynnea’s story is a beautiful reminder that generosity isn’t just about grand gestures. It’s about consistent, faithful steps. Month after month. Year after year. Thank you, Steven and Lynnea, for walking alongside us. Your story inspires us, and we are grateful for your generosity.
